General Summary
Studies all facets of manufacturing, organizes action plans as to what and how to collect the pertinent data to be used as decision support. Uses independent judgement and discretion in determining how to convey information and in making logical arguments in support of corrective actions.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Problem Solving: Collects and analyzes data for the purpose of solving problems & making recommendations on matters that are important to the cost structure of the manufacturing operation.
+ Identify cost savings opportunities across operations through completing people & material flow and time studies as well as data analytics.
+ Lead and execute projects to optimize process and reduce waste in time, materials, energy.
+ Providing Information: Interprets data from a host of sources and creates concise and user-friendly charts, graphs, reports, and other modes of conveying information to diverse audiences. Must be able to tailor the mode and style of communications to best fit the target audience.
+ Financial Responsibility: In the role of team-leader or team-member on one or more teams, has responsibility for the attainment of team objectives which are usually translatable into financial measures. The IEs responsibility in this team framework also includes determination of and documentation of the financial goals.
+ Assist with the daily production reconciliation and reporting functions as required.
+ Sets priorities and allocates industrial engineering resources to support plant operations
Job Complexity:
+ Downtime Analysis & Corrective Action: Determines the best method in which to gather the appropriate data and perform experiments and studies for the purpose of making recommendations for performance improvement. Assignments are usually vague with no well-defined method of accomplishment. The I.E. must draw upon his/her logical problem solving abilities, analytical abilities, detailed knowledge of the operation, and the use of specialized tools normally learned in an Industrial Engineering curricula (work sampling, flowcharting, methods analysis, critical path analysis, simulation, lean/6 sigma concepts, etc.
+ Flexibility in Communications: The I.E. must consider the complexity and sensitivity of the information to be conveyed and the argument being presented, as well as the sensitivities and level of understanding of the intended audience. These factors must be carefully considered and the style of communications adjusted in order to properly convey the information in a logical, coherent fashion, such that the audience understands. More often than not, the audience consists of people with very diverse needs, levels of education, and abilities to comprehend technical matters.
+ Yields Analysis- Studies problems associated with ingredient and filling yields, researches reasons for losses, and works with different teams to resolve the issue.
+ Work Sampling, Flowcharting, Methods Analysis, Critical Path Analysis, and Simulation. Has the ability to 'size-up' a situation and to use the appropriate IE tool in problem definition, analysis, and solution.
+ Performs 'Costing What-Ifs' via spreadsheet for the purpose of project justification.
+ Coordinate activities and instructs other IEs in the department
Minimum Requirements:
+ Minimum education required: 4 year technical college degree; Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, Mechanical or Electro Mechanical Engineering degree desired
+ Years of relevant experience: 3-5 years
+ Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Microsoft Project
+ Familiarity of the appropriate use of, and the ability to use Simulation Modeling and Project Management Techniques.
+ Good mathematical skills in solving basic algebraic and statistical problems.
+ Good listening, and communications skills.
+ Must have the ability and show the desire to be flexible in work assignments, to include varying work hours as needed to fit the circumstances, and to be adaptable to changing priorities.
+ Must display a sense of urgency and strong desire to provide excellent customer service.
+ Must be able to coordinate work of other IEs and to mentor them
Working Conditions:
25% office environment, 75% manufacturing environment - performing studies/implementing solutions on manufacturing floor
